Sheila Vinacco, Mary Lada, and Ann Ross, locally known as the Murphy girls, grew up loving chocolate and sweets, and turned their sweet tooth into a successful business. Native Rhode Islanders, the three sisters grew up in Warwick, with their parents, James and Ann Murphy. Over the past 26 years the local candy store has grown into a jewelry, chocolate and gift boutique for every occasion. The three sisters built their chocolate business from a 300 sq. ft. corner store to a beautifully appointed, 3000 sq. ft. retail store. Sweet Twist has earned eight Best of Rhode Island awards, including "Best Candy Store in Rhode Island" and “Best Gift Store in Rhode Island” according to RI Monthly Magazine.
In 1994 Sheila began dipping small pretzel twists in chocolate, creatively packaging them and selling them to friends and family. These "Sweet Twists" were the inspiration not only for the name but also for what has grown into jewelry, chocolate and gift emporium. In 2003 the three sisters joined together with the vision to create the ultimate shopping experience. They have worked to provide customers of all ages with friendly customer service, convenience, and a great product selection.
Sweet Twist features brands such as Brighton, Julie Vos, John Medeiros, Oliver Thomas and many more. While remaining true their love of sweets, they continue hand-making fine chocolates on premises. Sweet Twist is a one-stop shop for a gift, chocolate craving, or even just a little something for yourself.
Sweet Twist has some exciting but bittersweet news to share. After 26 years in business Sheila, Ann and I have decided it is time to retire!
We are very excited to move onto the next chapter in our lives but sad at the thought of saying goodbye to all our wonderful customers.
We know this will be a shock to all of you as we continue to be a very successful business even in one of the most challenging retail environments we have ever encountered.
That success is in great part due to the incredible support of our amazing families, friends, vendors and or course, you, our loyal customers! We can’t stress enough that none of this would have been possible without all of you.
Many of you have been with us since the very beginning as Sheila started the business on the road at various craft shows throughout New England. Then opening our first retail shop at the old mill at 5 Division Street and finally to our current location on Post Road.
We have celebrated each other’s happy times and consoled each other during life’s difficult times. We have watched your families grow as you have watched ours! We will miss all of you and cherish the memories for years to come!
